Mobile Internet
What is the Mobile Internet?
The Mobile Internet is the World Wide Web as viewed on mobile phone and other Internet-capable mobile devices. Smart phones (iPhone, Blackberry, etc.) and other newer phone models now have mobile versions of full web browsers such as Opera, IE, Safari, etc., making it possible for full websites to be viewed even on mobile phones.
What is WAP?
WAP is a protocol designed for micro browsers (such as those found in mobile phones) that formats websites for viewing through mobile phones. This allows phones without mobile versions of web browsers such as IE, Opera, Safari, etc. to still view regular websites. What users see is a stripped-down version of the website, formatted to fit the smaller screen of a mobile phone.

What is .mobi?

Some mobile sites have a dot.mobi address, instead of dot.com. .mobi is a top-level domain (TLD) approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. .mobi is unique – it is the first top level domain dedicated to delivering the internet to the mobile phone. .mobi is sponsored by a consortium of companies which includes the most prominent mobile and Internet players in the world.(http://mtld.mobi/domain/faq/general#a )

Any site with a .mobi address means that it will be viewed properly and will work on a mobile device. Go to the dotMobi site for more information.

Mobile Site as a Marketing Tool
Mobile Sites
Mobile Internet is the next online wave after the World Wide Web. More and more people look for ways to stay connected even when they are away from their PCs and regular Internet connections. This is where mobile phones and the Mobile Internet come in.
What is a mobile site?

A mobile site is a web site configured for viewing through the smaller screen dimensions of mobile phones. Mobile sites are perfect for today's developing world because of the convenience and ubiquity of mobile devices. As of 2009, there are already 4 billion mobile phone subscribers globally – more than 50% of the world's population, which is at 6.7 billion.

How is a mobile site different from a regular website?
A regular website is designed and formatted for viewing through PCs. A mobile site, on the other hand, is configured into the right size, layout and format suitable for mobile phone viewing. A mobile site offers a different mode of accessing information, taking advantage of the mobile phone's navigation system and other unique features.
Why should I have a mobile site?
Mobile sites give you extra visibility. You can be accessible to your audience whenever and wherever. Your products or services can be available to your customers at the exact moment that they need them. You can also give your customers information that can be more often and conveniently accessed through mobile, such as flight schedules/status, cinema schedules, transport schedules, etc.
Benefits of a mobile site
  1. Visibility

Be seen in mobile phones across the globe and increase your top-of-mind presence and popularity.

  2. Portability

Connect with contacts and customers who are always on the go. Have your most important documents, photos, reviews and events calendar on hand should you suddenly need them.

  3. Connectivity

Instantly interact with and address your audience at any given place and time. Build new relationships and enhance existing ones with friends, clients, partners and wap site viewers.

  4. Exposure

Expand your Web network. A mobile site is a fresh medium that enables you to generate additional exposure for your existing websites. Maximize exposure in previously untapped markets, niches and networks.

How to Use Your Mobile Site as a Marketing Tool
A mobile site is a powerful tool for marketing and promotions. Here are the possibilities for your mobile site:
Mobile coupon delivery and tracking

A mobile site is capable of delivering mobile coupons to consumers. A mobile coupon lets you save time and money. The huge cost of printing is totally eliminated. There is even the added benefit of environmental responsibility, since you save on the use of paper and ink.

Easily track coupon delivery and redemptions using different methods, depending on your current infrastructure and system or on your willingness to invest in the technology.

How to deliver mobile coupons via your mobile site
  1. Upload the mobile coupon on your mobile site
  2. Customers can download the coupon by visiting your mobile site. For tracking purposes or more importantly, for database-building purposes, you can ask site visitors to register first before downloading a mobile coupon.
  3. Customer presents the downloaded mobile coupon to the store cashier
Back to top
How to track mobile coupon redemption via mobile phone
  1. Store cashier scans the mobile code on the mobile coupon using a cameraphone with a code reader application. The phone connects to a database via the Internet and the system automatically tags the coupon as used/redeemed.

The Mobile Code
A mobile code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store a website address, phone number, email address, or serial number. There are two common types of mobile code - the QR code, and Data Matrix. Mobile codes can be scanned by a camera phone or an image scanner (not the laser barcode scanner).
Applicable uses of the mobile code:
  1. Link to your mobile site - Place your mobile site's mobile code on your website, blog, or print ads and other communication materials. People can scan the mobile code using their camera phones, and the code reader application will automatically take them to your mobile site. No need for your customers to remember URLs.
  2. Mobile coupon - Your mobile coupon could have a mobile code that contains the serial number and any other relevant information
Back to top
How to generate a mobile code
Every mobile site you create using Mobilemo automatically comes with a mobile code. Nokia also generates a mobile code for free.
How can my customers scan my mobile code?
Most new mobile phone models already have built-in scanning applications, but users can easily download open source scanning applications on the web. You can also download a scanning application from the Nokia website. Here is a site that recommends several code reader applications: http://www.mobile-barcodes.com/qr-code-software/

Other ways to use your mobile site as a marketing tool
  1. Building a database

Build a valuable database through the Forms tool. Create Reservation Forms, Registration Forms, Feedback Forms, Job Application Forms, or virtually any kind of form that would supply you with relevant customer information. Invite your customers to interact with you through this tool.

  2. Rich media distribution

Mobile phones are capable of displaying images and text and playing music, videos and games. Use this rich multimedia capability to further build and enhance your brand. Distribute multimedia contents to your customers via your mobile site.

  3. Real time communication and interaction with customers

Anything you put up on your mobile site can be viewed instantaneously, as well as anything that your viewers enter on your mobile site, such as form and poll responses. You could easily monitor site visits and feedbacks, allowing you to quickly reply to your customers.

  4. Run complete marketing promos or have a dedicated promotional site

From teasers to informational campaigns to full promos, you can run them all through your mobile site.

  5. Complement your existing website with a mobile site.
However, don't make it simply a mobile version of your regular website. Put unique content and run unique promos or campaigns to drive customers to your mobile site.

How to Promote Your Mobile Site
The buck doesn't stop with your mobile site. Get the word out and get your customers to visit and use your mobile site to make it work as an effective marketing medium.

Mobile Code
Display your mobile site's mobile code on all your advertising and corporate communication materials. Print your mobile code on the back of your business cards.

.mobi/m.sitename.com domains
Instead of using your company's URL and simply redirecting to the mobile site when customers use a mobile phone to access your website, it would be a better marketing strategy for your mobile site to have its own domain name. It alerts your customers that you have a mobile site. Promote the mobile site URL together with your website URL.

Special offers accessible only through the mobile site
Run promos or distribute coupons that are exclusive to mobile site visitors to encourage your customers to use your mobile site.

Mobile Advertising
What is mobile advertising?
Mobile advertising is the mobile phone version of web ads. Just as you can publish ads on your regular website and advertise on other websites, you could also do so in your mobile site and in other mobile sites. You can easily do this by signing up with mobile advertising networks. Many of the web ad networks also have mobile components, so check if your existing ad networks also include ads for mobile.

Mobile advertising networks
Many ad networks have already added a mobile advertising component. The more popular mobile advertising networks include Google AdSense and AdWords, AdMob, Admoda, Buzz City, Mojiva, and Project Wonderful.

This is another effective way to build your brand.

Forms
Leverage this tool to communicate with your customers and build a database. Get customer feedback, customer data, reservations, job applications, and any other information you need. Let customers register before downloading a mobile coupon. Form replies are exportable to your PC as an Excel file, so you do not have to manually copy the data.

Twitter Feed
If you already have a Twitter account, you can easily activate the Twitter feed on your mobile site. There is no need to re-post your tweet since it is automatically updated on your mobile site. Your customers can instantly read your Twitter posts without leaving your mobile site.

File Sharing
Build and enhance your brand by uploading and sharing multimedia files on your mobile site. Share images of new products, teaser or demo videos, commercials, radio ads, music, instruction manuals, etc. Use the shared files tool for promotional purposes. Give away your own ringtones, wallpapers, and other mobile content branded with your product to your customers. Mobilemo's file sharing tool also has a Briefcase option where the files you upload are for private viewing only. This can serve as a backup tool. This is even better than the usual backup systems - since it's accessible through the mobile phone, you can retrieve your files anytime you need them even without access to a PC.

Your customers can simply scan the mobile code image using their camera phones with a code reader software installed. Use of Own Domain Name
You could use your website's URL and our system will redirect users to your mobile site when they access via mobile phone. You could also opt to have a .mobi or m.sitename.com to indicate that you have a mobile site. Your customers might not know that you have a mobile site if you use only your regular website's domain name.
Ability to Integrate with Advertising Networks
Earn additional revenues by placing ads on your mobile site. Mobilemo allows you to use ad networks such as Google AdSense, AdMob, Mojiva, Project Wonderful, and other mobile advertising networks. You can also get mobile ads directly from your own advertisers and place them on your mobile site.
Smartphone Optimized Mobile Sites (iPhone, Blackberry)
Your mobile site is automatically optimized for smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry) viewing. Normally, a mobile site viewed on the iPhone's Safari browser would look too small and users would still have to zoom the page. This feature allows your mobile site to reach even more audiences.

Mobile Site Statistics

Mobilemo provides you with mobile site statistics so you can monitor visits to your mobile site. Among the data you will be provided are site views, unique visitors, pages visited, length of site visit, mobile phone models used, return visitors, etc.
